FAQs
Gel Polish Application
Gel nail polish, characterized by its thicker consistency compared to regular nail polish, is cured under a UV or LED lamp to dry, improving durability. This curing process provides longer shelf life and lasting color, which distinguishes gel nail polish from traditional nail polish.
Yes, our gel nail polish formulas are safe and meet industry standards for cosmetic products. They have been tested for safety and skin friendliness.
To apply gel nail polish, you need a primer, a base coat, color and a top coat, along with a UV or LED lamp to harden the polish.
Yes, a base coat helps improve the adhesion of the gel nail polish to the natural nail and protects the nail against discoloration.
First apply a thin layer of primer and allow it to air dry. Then apply a thin layer of base coat and cure it under the UV lamp. Then apply the chosen color in thin layers, curing each layer (60 sec) under the UV lamp, and finishing with a layer of top coat that is also fully cured (60 sec) under the UV lamp.
Generally, two to three thin coats are recommended for optimal coverage and color intensity.
Gel nail polish dries on average after 60 seconds of curing under the UV or LED lamp, allowing you to resume your activities without worrying about the next polish smearing.
Check whether you have applied the gel nail polish thinly enough and whether you have used the correct curing time under the lamp. If the gel nail polish still does not harden, your lamp may not be compatible or may not be functioning properly.
Make sure to properly prepare the nail plate, such as degreasing it, and apply thin, even coats, followed by complete curing under the lamp.
Make sure you prepare the nail properly, apply thin coats and make sure you cover the free edge of the nail well with each coat. This helps the nail polish to last longer.
If you notice wrinkles or bubbles on your nails after applying the gel nail polish, this suggests that the nail polish has been applied too thickly. To avoid this, especially with highly pigmented colors, make sure you apply a thin layer of gel nail polish. A thick layer may not harden properly under the LED lamp, which can lead to the formation of wrinkles and bubbles.
If your De Sera gel nail polish becomes hard, this may be because you store it in the wrong places. Try not to store it in direct sunlight or shady areas. Also avoid using it near sunny windows as sunlight can cause it to harden faster. Also keep your nail polish bottles away from the LED lamp to prevent them from hardening too early. It is best to store them in a dark place.
In the case of a contact allergy, contact of the skin with the product can cause unpleasant symptoms such as redness, swelling and itching. If you experience symptoms that indicate an acrylate allergy, first stop using the product. The symptoms should subside quickly. A dermatologist can diagnose a contact allergy and inform you about the specific acrylic to which you are allergic. Therefore, if you suspect that you are allergic to acrylates in gel nail polish or nail cosmetics, always contact your doctor for a referral. The same acrylics can also be used in medical and dental applications, such as dental fillings or artificial knees. It is important that an allergy is diagnosed professionally; Knowing which acrylic you are allergic to can be recorded in your medical file. Although we do not offer HEMA-free products, our experience suggests that HEMA is often the cause of the reaction. If tests show that you have a HEMA acrylic allergy, it may be beneficial to explore alternative product options. Of course, it is also important to follow the instructions for use and avoid skin contact.
Although the use of our products is completely safe for your unborn child, we do not recommend it during pregnancy. Hormonal fluctuations can cause your nails to become greasy or dry. Therefore, we cannot guarantee 14 days of adhesion.
Recent laboratory studies have investigated the impact of UV light exposure from lamps used to harden gel nail polish. These studies include tests involving long-term exposure to UV-A radiation levels significantly higher than those encountered during standard gel nail polish application. Although DNA damage was observed in skin samples under these extreme conditions, exposure levels were 9,000% to 18,000% higher than those associated with normal use of LED lamps as recommended by manufacturers.
Under normal circumstances, exposure to UV-A radiation from the LED lamp while applying gel nail polish is only 3 to 4 minutes once every 14 days. At this time, there is no evidence to indicate that this level of exposure poses a significant risk to skin health.
How do I remove my gel nail polish safely?
To safely remove your gel nail polish, start by gently roughening the surface of the gel nail polish lightly with a nail buffer to break up the top layer. Then, dip a lint-free cotton ball in acetone-based nail polish remover and place it on the nail. Use the De Sera removal clips to keep the cotton pads in place. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the acetone to dissolve the gel nail polish. Then carefully remove the cotton pads and use a squeegee to gently scrape away any remaining gel nail polish. Don't forget to moisturize your nails afterwards.
