FAQs

Gel Polish Application

Gel polish, characterized by its thicker consistency compared to regular nail polish, undergoes curing
under a UV or LED lamp for drying, thereby enhancing its longevity. This curing process ensures
extended durability and lasting color, distinguishing gel polish from traditional nail polish.

Yes, our gel polish formulas are safe and comply with industry standards for cosmetic products. They are
tested for safety and skin-friendliness.

To apply gel polish, you need a gel polish primer, base coat, color, and topcoat, along with a UV or LED lamp for curing.

Yes, a base coat helps to improve adhesion of the gel polish to the natural nail and protects the nail from
discoloration.

First, apply a thin layer of primer and let it air dry, than apply a thin layer of base coat, cure it under the lamp, then apply the chosen color in thin coats, curing between each layer, and finish with a layer of top
coat fully cured.

Generally, two to three thin layers are recommended for optimal coverage and color intensity.

Gel polish dries instantly after curing under the UV or LED lamp, allowing you to resume activities without worrying about smudging the polish.

Check if you applied the gel polish thinly enough and if you used the correct curing time under the lamp.
If the gel polish still doesn't cure, it could be that your lamp is not compatible or not functioning
properly.

Ensure you properly prepare the nail plate, such as degreasing it, and apply thin, even coats, followed by
full curing under the lamp.

Ensure the nail plate is properly prepared, apply thin coats, and seal the free edge of the nail with each
coat for long-lasting wear.

If you notice wrinkles or bubbles on your nails after applying the gel polish, it suggests that the polish
has been applied too thickly. To avoid this, especially with highly pigmented colors, ensure to apply a
thin layer of the gel polish. Applying a thick layer may not cure properly under the LED lamp, leading to
the formation of wrinkles and bubbles.

If your De Sera gel polish is getting hard, it might be because of where you're applying it. Try not to put it
on in direct sunlight or shady spots. Also, don't use it near sunny windows, as sunlight can make it
harden faster. And keep your polish bottles away from the LED lamp to stop them from hardening too
soon. It's best to store them in a dark place.

In the case of a contact allergy, contact of the skin with the product can cause unpleasant symptoms such as redness, swelling, and itching. When you experience symptoms that lead you to suspect an acrylate allergy, first stop using the product. The symptoms should then quickly diminish. A dermatologist can diagnose a contact allergy and inform you about the specific acrylate you are allergic to. Therefore, if you suspect an allergy to acrylates in gel polish or nail cosmetics, always contact your general practitioner for a referral. The same acrylates can also be used in medical and dental applications, such as dental fillings or artificial knees. It is important that an allergy is professionally diagnosed; knowing which acrylate you are allergic to can be recorded in your patient records. While we do not offer HEMA-free products, our experience suggests that HEMA is often the cause of the reaction. If tests reveal that you have an HEMA-acrylates allergy, it may be beneficial for you to explore alternative product options. Of course, it is also important to follow the user instructions and prevent skin contact.

Although the use of our products is completely safe for your unborn child, we do not recommend it
during pregnancy. Hormone fluctuations can cause your nails to become oily or dry. Therefore, we
cannot guarantee the 14-day adhesion.

Recent laboratory studies have investigated the impact of UV light exposure from lamps used for curing
gel polish. These studies involved testing with prolonged exposure to UV-A radiation levels significantly
higher than those encountered during standard gel polish application. While DNA damage was observed
in skin samples under these extreme conditions, the exposure levels were 9,000% to 18,000% greater
than those associated with normal use of LED lamps as recommended by manufacturers.
Under typical circumstances, exposure to UV-A radiation from the LED lamp during gel polish application
amounts to only 3 to 4 minutes every 14 days. Currently, there is no evidence indicating that this level of
exposure poses a significant risk to skin health.

To safely remove your gel polish, begin by lightly buffing the surface of the gel polish with a nail buffer to
break the top coat. Next, soak a lint-free pad in acetone-based nail polish remover and place it over the
nail. Use the remover clips provided by De Sera to secure the pads in place. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to
allow the acetone to dissolve the gel polish. Afterward, gently remove the pads, and use a cuticle pusher
to gently scrape off any remaining gel polish. Be sure to moisturize your nails afterward.
